Gotta Love a Broomstick Skirt!

What an awesome skirt! This would be great for a night of twirling at a Contra Dance or perhaps just lounging around the house. The crinkle material is super comfy and fun to wear. I also love the color as well.

I'm thinking of collecting a couple in different colors. This is a classic look that never seems to go out of style.

What's Your Favorite Type of Skirt?

Faithful readers and skirt wearers, please let us know your favorite type of skirts and choice of colors. Unlike most pants, skirts come in many types of fun styles from ankle-length to short and made of all kinds of different fabrics and designs.

My favorite place to buy skirts are thrift stores. They always have a changing selection and they have so many skirts to choose from. If you've recently visited some department stores, you may notice that there are not as many skirts as their used to be. The thrift stores also have great deals on shoes, purses, etc.

I'll start first with my all-time favorite -
a long,purple broomstick skirt! Now what's yours?

Skirt Alert at Contra Dance

Flowing skirts are definitely in fashion at this Contra Dance. A long, flowy skirt is my personal preference and seems to be the choice of most men who wear skirts to contra dances. Choice of colors comes in all styles. However, there are some who prefer knee-length skirts or kilts. Whatever your preference skirt readers out there, it has to be better than pants!

Skirt Alternative

Here is a idea for guys who don't want to commit with a full skirt at a Contra Dance. Tie a sweater around your waist and turn it around in front like an apron. Good idea!

For Those About to Skirt - We Salute You!

I hope the New Year is full of new skirt wearers! I know buying and wearing a skirt for the first time can be nerve wracking at first. Take your time and find a style you are comfortable in and if your planning on wearing it to a dance, a light material is recommended.

Guys can purchase their first skirt at a thrift store with little problems or comments. Many contra dances also have skirts for sale on-site. Or maybe a friend may have one that she will let lend... either way, once you have your skirt, wear it around the house and when you feel comfortable - it's time to wear it to a contra dance!

Contra dances happen all over the country and are one of the most skirt-friendly places for a guy to go skirted. I created this blog to show the skirt-wearing community is strong and growing, particularly at Contra Dances. Some dances are even featuring "Men in Skirts" themed-dances.

I was a bit nervous the first time I wore a three-tiered skirt to a contra dance so I brought a handbag and changed when I got there. The most popular skirts are the long, flowy type and anything goes for colors and designs. You will probably see a kilt or two as well at a Contra Dance.

Some dancers just wear their skirts over their pants. Most of the time when you go skirted, you probably will not even get a comment, but some smiles and appreciative nods from the ladies. Hopefully, there are a couple more skirted guys in attendance to give you a confidence boost. But don't worry if there are not, the women seem to appreciate men in skirts and sometimes will give you comments like "nice skirt!"

You'll see how much fun it is dance in a swirly skirt and may find yourself shopping for your next skirt soon after.

Have fun with fashion and enjoy a skirted New Year!

Flowing Skirts are more Fun than Pants!

Wow! It looks like there are about as many guys wearing skirts as the women in this video. At most Contra Dances you'll usually see a couple of gents wearing long, flowing skirts and/or kilts. If you haven't tried dancing it in a skirt, it is a lot of fun! And much more comfortable than pants.

Skirt of the Month: Long, Leather Skirt!

With the cooler season approaching, I thought I would highlight a perfect skirt for the season. Long, leather skirts are elegant, stylish and very comfortable. I mostly wear light fabrics for contra dancing, but this long, leather skirt is wonderful for a cool, winter day.

This skirt looks great paired with a nice sweater and perhaps some boots. As a guy, it took me a little while to taking smaller steps in this, but I have gotten used to it after awhile.

I hope to get the confidence to wear it to a party or concert some day, but for now, I'll just wear it around the house.
